The importance of a dive profile.

How many of us complete a dive profile? I have witnessed MOST divers completing a buddy check before entering the water but dive profiles appear to be ....well to say the least....a bit vague! I was reading an old article about how sticking to dive profile saved the lives of a group of Australian police divers. They were out on a training exercise on a reef and were at the point where it was time to ascend, when they were warned through their underwater comms system that a 4 metre shark was swimming about on the surface. The movements of the shark were monitored by the boat crew and the divers had to surface 10 minutes later than planned, which of course wasn’t a problem as they had plenty of air in reserve. Imagine the consequences if that hadn’t been the case! This should be a warning to us all!
