If you are located in South East England and looking for an inland dive site, Wraysbury Dive Centre is very convenient.

The dive centre (PADI 5 Star) is a former gravel pit, so not overly deep (circa 10m practical max), but plenty of dive platforms etc. Some submerged attractions too. Open seven days a week and for night dives on Wednesdays.

A great cafe and bar plus training facilities. A shop too, but quite limited stock.

Had planned to dive at Wraysbury yesterday (Tues 12th Jan) but the lake was frozen over.

Spoke to staff on Monday afternoon who advised that they had tried to break the surface with a sledge hammer over the weekend, but that it was no go. This ice was reported as being something like 7 inches thick.

Wraysbury’s Learn to Dive teaching arm are currently running PADI Ice Dive specialities at Wraysbury Dive Centre for anyone interested. However, as I’m not planning an Arctic trip any time soon I decided to pass on that.
