I started my open water during Feb with Dive Northampton & are looking around for information & researching things I need to know more about - such as looking for Insurance(!) & came across your site whilst trying to find useful info & getting more of a feel for the important stuff. 

I completed the Scuba Diver part of my license during Feb & will complete the open water at the end of May (due to the horrible weather at Stoney Cove - it was snowing when we went in! Had to refuse the second dive as I was too numb to open my BCD!    - may not have thought through the plan quite as well but had decided to learn to dive as a “present” to myself for loosing 7 stones in weight but hadn’t considered the UK’s terrible weather as, as soon as I did the Discover I was completely hooked

I am off on hols to South France in Aug & hopefully my eldest will complete her O/W referral too & am looking for ideas of the most useful/recommended insurance co’s & any buddies to get more involved.

Welcome to the group.

UK Diving in winter can be very enjoyable, providing that you are correctly kitted out. e.g. with a good dry suit and gloves etc., so you shouldn’t feel the cold. In fact I am off to Vobster Quay, Somerset, tomorrow for a days diving fun.

Re dive insurance, it really depends on the type and level of cover you want/need. If you plan to dive in the UK, even at places like Stoney, you may find that some ‘Dive travel inurance’ cover doesn’t cover you. Many dive insuranbces also have restrictions on the depth at which their cover stops, regardless of your qualification and experience. Check out DAN Europe. They provide annual cover regardless of where or when you will be diving and you can also obtain cover to suit your specific needs. i.e. with good levels life cover.
