Hi all

Im looking to go away In September but not sure whether to turn right or left so is it best to go to the Caribbean or somewhere in the Indian ocean.

What do you think

I can’t say I have been to the Caribbean but I have been to the Maldives and had some really great dives

The Maldives are very good I went there before about eight years ago and loved it. I have been looking online at what seems like a million travel sites to see whats available and where the good deals are. But then if I chose the Maldives just like the Caribbean which island is the best to go to. Mind you if the oil spill keeps going it might reach parts of the Caribbean and limit my options.

I went the Kuredu, its quite a large island on the northern edge of the Lhaviyani atoll. Best take the seaplane transfer rather than boat transfer. The dive center there is well setup with tanks to wash your kit and a place to store it so you don’t have to take it back to your room. and more than enough dive sites to do a two week holiday without repeating a site. I would certainly think about returning as the possible trip I had in mind for late October to the Cayman islands looks like it won’t happen .

Thanks for the info Kuredu was one of the many places I looked at and it does look good and is on the long long long list. Is Kerudu where you can see lots of manta rays?

The island I stayed on was Velavaru which was in the South Nilandhe Atoll I think. I did enjoy the seaplane trip what an amazing view and what a way to arrive as well. It was a small and quiet place with almost no enterainment but was a great place to relax and unwind but a little boring after a week. This time I want a bit more to do after a hard days diving and a spa massage  

I would like to try the Caymans although which is the best island is it made up of a couple of main ones Grand Cayman and another one or have I just made that up

I went to Kuredu in August, did not see any Mantas, but I am not sure it was the right time of year. I just booked it through a travel agents.

So where do you think you will go now Cayman is off?

I am a bit like you I don’t know where to go. I should find out next Thursday (1st July) if the Cayman trip is off. So I guess I will have to really make my mind up then. The trouble is I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Its great to have lots of places to chose from the problem is we have lots of places to chose from

Just when I find somewhere and think that’s it all decided I see somewhere else thats cheaper or has a better hotel and facilities and on and on it goes its like groundhog day.

Maybe I should just have a week at butlins.

Fingers crossed that you can still get to the Caymans.

Sorry to hear that you will have to start looking around for someplace else.

I just seem to keep looking although I am starting to favour the Indian ocean now plus I guess it will be the start of the hurricane season in the Caribbean September time. I really am tempted to head to the Maldives again if I can get a good deal. I will just have to continue surfing the travel sites until that bargain turns up.
