Adopt an animal for an unusual christmas present.
My partner adopted a turtle for my christmas present. The adoption lasts a year and you are given a certificate, some post cards and a hardback book with your name printed on the first pages. You also get a little information card. I have looked on the website www.adoptwildlife.org and found the conservation projects are done through their sister charity One World Wildlife. They have a list of the projects they are currently involved in but i was a bit disappointed that there was nothing on there about the dolphin or turtle projects. I sent an email to them and they replied straight away with the following message:-
We’re working on it. We will update the web-site as soon as we can with info. The main area of work is monitoring of Turtles in the mediterranean, where they are very vulnerable to disturbance at nesting sites, ship strikes, drift nets and jet-some (especially plastic bags). But turtles are threatened also by CO2 emissions from cars planes , power stations etc. as this is acidifying and warming the sea all over the world, disrupting many of the ecosystems on which turtles depend for food.
I will return to the site to see if it has been updated at a later date.
It was a lovely gift and hopefully it will make a difference to our endangered species!
