a chance meeting saw me standing at the water’s edge at 19:30ish thinking “ I must be mad...”
for the 1st 5 or 6 minutes after getting under I have to admit I was stilll thinking that, but gradually we got away from the soup and into clearer water and sleepy fish territory.
This was my 1st night dive, so I was glad that my new buddies had MUCH better torches than me (hint, hint Santa).
we came across quite a few sprats sleeping, 4 flat fish (and stroked a couple), juvenile brown crab, the usual velvet crabs and a tub gurnard who showed us his pecs (complete with shiny markings).
Navigation was easy - bearing straight out from the beach, swim for 15mins, turn right, hit rocks, turn right again - simple. Sand ripples really helped with direction.
All in all a great 1st dark dip for me…
11degC, max 6.5m, 45mins (and despite wearing a 5mm semi-dry only 110 bar!)

Swanpool is an easy dive at anytime of year. I’ve dived it plenty of times this year including a couple of times at night. I do think Porthoustock is a much better night dive though.

What an interesting article, obviously there are great discrepancies between these judicial systems… this makes me realize how relative everything is and that justice is an utopia.
