A weekend on the liveaboard Kylebahn

Decided to risk the weather and travel to Oban lask weekend.  A few of my dive club mates were a bit sceptical about whether we would actually get in the water or just spend the weekend in the pub.

Dave, Harry, William and myself drove up on Saturday night.  All four of us in one van.  Nice clear run and got to the North pier in Oban for 11.30pm unloaded the gear onto the boat then straight to a Kebab shop.  Back to the boat for something to eat and a drink then straight to bed.

Woke up Sunday morning when the engines kicked in.  Went upstairs looked out of the window and it was sunny the sea was calm.  Jim had laid on tea, toast and bacon butties. The diving for that day was The Breda and The Rhondo.  Jim set off and when we got into the Sound of Mull the weather got a little bit more interesting.  William was feeling queasy (he is not a good sailor, god knows why he chose diving as hobby).
Made it to The Breda, really nice dive lots of life.  Vis was bit disappointing but we couldn’t expect it to be brilliant with the weather they had.

William managed to throw up on the way to The Rhondo.  The Rhondo was an interesting dive, to start with William and Harry missed the shot and gave it up as a bad job and got back the boat.  Myself and Dave made it to the shot and down to the wreck (this is a great wreck for all abilities in the right conditions).  We had to stay inside the wreck as the tide was runinng a bit.  Nice dive and vis was better and lots of life.

After the 2 dives we were meant to be going Tobermory to moor up for the the night but the weather was too bad so we ended up going to Loch Aline (Ihope I have spelt that right).  The lads were pulling their faces as they thought there wouldn’t be a pub where we were going, there was 2.  Had some tea, a power nap and then we dragged ourselves to the pub.  Good pub, we got a lock in and finally got to bed at 2.30am.

Woke up Sunday morning and felt surprisingly good, the sea was like a mirror but we were in a sheltered bit.  Todays dives were The Shuna and a Scallop dive to finish off.  The Shuna was the best of three wrecks there was tons of life.  The final Scallop dive was good got plenty of Scallops, the only bad thing was I got suit flood and that was bloody cold.  Then back to Oban and then the 7 hour trip back home.

Jim the skipper knows his stuff.  The boat cost us £60 per day this includes 3 meals a days and he is not mean with the portions, all your fills and accommodation. The boat can take 12 divers but it would a squeeze.  The boat was a bit cold and the cabins aren’t heated.

A good weekend was had by all.

Hi Stacey sounds like a good weekend even more so with a lock in. Have you been there before?

Shaun
