Smart Com
I was looking for a new dive computer after having managed to crack the screen on my Aladin Pro (a computer I liked a lot) on a previous dive holiday and in addition I now also needed a Nitrox capable device having previously completed the PADI course. Having looked around and seen countless reviews of various computers from different companies I was unable to decide on whether to go for another wrist mounted device or go for an air integrated type. The wrist mounted computers appealed a lot and combined with a transmitter would allow me to monitor tank pressure as well. In the end I decided that as I liked the Aladin I would stick to the same company so I opted for the Uwatec Smart Com an air integrated system computer that connects via a quick release connection to a HP hose. It supplies all the information you need including tank pressure and remaining bottom time remaining based on current air consumption together with all the usual features you would expect to see and houses a compass at the end. I have been using the Smart Com for over a year now and have had no problems with it at all and during that time have found it very easy to use both underwater and on the surface. The menu is simple to navigate and it only takes a few seconds to change Oxygen settings or to input a dive plan. The display is well laid out and easy to read with good audible alarms should you have exceeded one of the safety parameters. There is also the option to transfer the dive data to PC via infer red. It also has a screen protector so with luck it will last me a long time and allow me to safely enjoy a lot of diving.

Thanks for the review Shaun. Do you know how this unit stack up to the Galileo Sol in terms of inter phase ease of use?

Every dive computer is different I think it all comes down to what you want and how much you want to spend. The SOL is a very good computer and can be used with a tank transmitter and a heart rate monitor to give more acurate readings it also has a digital compass so lots of options but you pay extra for them. I have found the smart com ideal for diving in the UK and overseas and have no intention of swapping it. The interface works well and is easy to download the dive information to a PC or PDA. This is my second Uwatec computer and have never had a problem with them.
