27m collier ship out of Rock Cornwall.
Yesterday, Friday the 2nd of July I dived the collier ship, “The Sphene”, at 27m. The Sphene sank in an upright position in 1946, after being holed.
The Sphene is a beautiful wreck, sitting upright on the bottom with an intact stern and propeller with swim through.
Covered in pink sea fans and dead mans fingers, life on the Sphene is prolific. We saw huge pollack, bib, lots of starfish, and there seemed to be an enormous jelly fish bloom.
Totally wonderful wreck, can be reached out of Port Gaverne also. Must be dived on slack, as the tide started to run whilst we were down there, and you may feel a bit of a rush if you are on the bow or stern, and could be dangerous if missed timed. Bollards and some railing intact and my hubbie found a plate!.
